How to Clean Damp, Musty Odor Out Of Carpet.
Damp smells are common in absorbent surfaces such as rugs and carpets as the textile collects moisture and produces the unpleasant smell. To safely get rid of the damp smell you want to not only deodorize but also absorb moisture. Avoid the carpet powders and deodorizing sprays found at your supermarket and instead use an inexpensive ingredient that deodorizes while absorbing moisture.
What you’ll need:
-Vinegar in spray bottle
Instructions (or watch this video):
1) Sprinkle a coating of baking soda over the carpet and let it sit overnight. The baking soda naturally pulls out odor plus moisture without damaging or discoloring the carpeting.2) Vacuum the carpets to collect the baking soda.3) Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar if you notice any remaining damp smells and mist over the carpeting. This deodorizes and disinfects without requiring any chemical ingredients. Keep in mind there will be a slight vinegar odor that will dissipate within a few hours.
