This is the BEST household product I can recommend to you for getting out most of your organic stains such as: blood, wine, fruit juice, and tomato sauce. It is very similar to what all carpet cleaning professionals use in their spot removing arsenal for removing organic stains. And what would this great product be that is found in most grocery stores? Dah, dah, dah, dah... it's Oxyclean. Oxyclean's main cleaning ingredients are hydrogen peroxide and sodium percarbonate. Nothing cleans organic stains better than hydrogen peroxide. It will also work on coffee and tea (but not well on cream and sugar.)!
By organic, I mean stains with no artificial dyes. Fruit juices that are visually enhanced with synthetic or artificial dyes, sports drinks and "kool-aid" will not be removed at all with Oxyclean. Unfortunately, for synthetic dye stains, I know of no over the counter product that can mimic a carpet cleaning professional's artificial dye reducing agent (removes oxygen). Usage of reducing agents requires more expertise and can possibly damage your carpet.
WARNING: Test in inconspicuous area and do not make your cleaning solution stronger than what is recommended. Because it contains hydrogen peroxide, if it is not diluted properly, Oxyclean could bleach your carpet. If this this makes you nervous, give us a call at Cleancare at 303-530-0646 and we'll show you how to get blood or wine stains out of carpet in Boulder, CO.
NOTE: Put Oxyclean solution in a spray bottle and lightly spray stains and follow with working solution into stain with a brush. Don't just pour or squirt it on as they show in commercials. Soaking your carpet with any cleaning solution will bring up soil from your carpet pad and carpet backing and it will wick into your carpet fibers. This will result in an unsightly brown or yellow circle around the area you treated when it dries.
After spraying and brushing, be patient and let area dry naturally. Blood, wine and other organic stains will then disappear. Do not use heat or hot water until stain has disappeared. Then rinse with water, blot with dry towels (or use shop vac) and dry with a fan. Blood in particular can be set permanently with heat. If other household cleaning products were used prior to Oxyclean, it may not work. Always be careful with what cleaning solutions you use. Don't just spray any cleaner you find under your kitchen sink. It could possibly set the stain permanently!
